The school have held a silver licence since January 2015. Students needed additional support to raise their levels of literacy, increase vocabulary and comprehension.
The school’s objective was to better support pupils facing multiple barriers to learning. Lexonik was chosen because it is proven as a method of improving pupils’ reading ages and vocabulary knowledge.
Four Teaching Assistants were originally trained on Lexonik Core programme and all delivered the programme until 2016 when one left. Another teaching assistant was
trained in October 2017.
The school have attained great results with the pupils who have completed the programme. These pupils were from Y7/8/8/10/11. 82 pupils have now completed the programme with an average reading age gain of 54 months.
SLT are now more aware of the benefits of the programme and are in regular contact with the Lexonik from Sound Training team.
